Swain County Schools will issue a WEATHER WARNING when weather conditions are or will be present that have the potential for delays or cancellation of school. WEATHER WARNINGS will be issued in advance so that our community can be prepared IF school is delayed or cancelled. The Warning will also alert our community to the possibility of weather situations during travel as well as for students who wait on buses. Please note that the WARNING does not mean schools will be delayed or cancelled, only that the possibility exists. Check all Maroon Devil media outlets for updates, delays or cancellations.
The Swain County Board of Education will meet, Monday, February 8, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. in the Swain County Administration Building, 50 Main Street, 3rd
Floor Auditorium, Bryson City, NC 28713.
Appropriate social distancing and mass gathering limits will be observed. The meeting will be broadcast on the school system YouTube link at Maroon Devil Network.

Due to deteriorating road conditions, Tuesday, February 2, there will be no school for students and it will be an optional teacher workday for staff.
Swain County Schools plans to have a regularly scheduled Remote Learning Day, tomorrow, Wednesday, February 3 for all students. It is also our intent to have schedule B students return to their buildings on Thursday, February 4 & Friday, February 5
Due to the unpredictable nature of the weather today, Swain County Schools will have a remote learning day on Feb. 1. This is not a teacher workday. All instruction will be delivered virtually. It is our hope to bring all schedule A students to the buildings on Tuesday, Feb. 2
Swain County Schools will implement a two hour delay on Monday February 1. The purpose is to allow for further observation of the weather and to allow drivers better vision. Additional schedule changes for the day are possible pending deteriorating weather.
Swain County Schools plans to return to "In Person" Instruction beginning Monday, February 1st, 2021. Students on schedule A should plan to return to school on Monday, barring any change due to inclement weather.
To further insure that all schools and buses will be appropriately staffed, Swain County Schools will continue Plan C-Remote Instruction for the week of January 25 - 29. Thank you for supporting our staff and students as we work together to safely provide the best instruction possible in challenging times.
Like many in our community, we are concerned with the overall rise in COVID cases in our county. For the overall safety and well being of our faculty, staff and students, as well as our community as a whole, we will be halting face to face instruction and going to Plan C, which is Remote Instruction for ALL students, beginning Thursday, January 14th until Monday, January 25th. Tomorrow, Tuesday, January 12th and Wednesday, January 13th will be Teacher Workdays.
We apologize for the difficulties this causes our Swain Family, but we feel it is a necessary decision for the overall well being of our school community.
